Find Inner Wisdom and Healing through Korean Shamanic Stories.

5000+ years of Korean culture and history leave behind many magical myths and stories of spirits and gods of Korea. Most of Korean mythology is documented in the shamanic songs performed by the shamans in various rituals (Gut). There are different variations depending on the region, sharing interesting and exciting origin stories of Korea's powerful shamanic gods and goddesses.

Myths reflect what our ancestors' lives were like back in the day. These stories must have gone through many edits and revisions over the years, from one ancient kingdom to the next, attempting to connect and portray the lives of the people who lived in that time period. Many of the remaining myths are from Joseon kingdom (1392-1910), the most recent dynasty before Japanese colonization and modern Korean government.

Because of the heavy influence of Confucianism and patriarchy of Joseon dynasty, I found reading these myths frustrating at times. These stories reflected how challenging and difficult women's lives were at the time, but unlike some of other old stories from the period, I was able to find empowering lessons and insights from them.

Many Korean myths show the wisdom, courage, compassion, love, fierceness, and all around magic of Korean women, hidden between the lines. These are the reflection of divine feminine magic that can heal, inspire, and encourage us.

The intention of this 6-week program is to share the wisdom and healing I found in these shamanic myths with others like me in hopes of assisting in their own journey and expansion.

In this program, you will be introduced to six select myths translated in English by me. While many versions of these stories are readily available as public domain in Korean, I believe this is the first available translations in English.

This program is ideal for people with Korean ancestry, seeking to connect to the wisdom and healing from the shamanic stories of our ancestors. All discussions will be from this specific point of view and intention. Reading and discussion will be all done in English.

Each week, I will share a myth with a reading guide followed by a zoom call to share and discuss wisdom and healing from the myth. The zoom discussions will also be a great opportunity to ask question and gain more insights about Korea's indigenous culture and spirituality.
